DLC Controls Summit 2024: Integration for the Future

DLC Controls Summit 2024

Integration for the Future

October 15 – 16, 2024
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Everyone agrees that the potential to optimize savings by integrating lighting controls with other building systems is real, but getting alignment on how to do this is less clear. By convening different groups of professionals to discuss the possibilities and challenges, we can begin to solve the problem together.

Integration is the last step on a larger pathway to connected lighting. Energy efficiency programs are starting to incorporate more than simple LED replacements, including controls, LLLCs, and NLCs plus other building systems such as HVAC. The results from our most recent potential study show clear value in integrating networked lighting controls (NLCs) with HVAC systems to save an additional 30% of HVAC energy in large buildings. Summit attendees will have opportunities to network and discuss how controls can be used to optimize savings in a variety of building types, share experiences with installing NLCs and integrating lighting controls with other building systems, and explore new DLC resources that will encourage more NLC installations.

Who Should Attend

The DLC Controls Summit is an opportunity for professionals who design, promote, install, and incentivize lighting controls to network, learn, and collaborate on ways to break down the barriers implementing and integrating lighting controls in facilities of all sizes, including:

DLC Members, utility energy efficiency program staff, and program implementers

As baselines begin to shift away from traditional lighting retrofits and toward more comprehensive projects, lighting controls are becoming increasingly important to meet energy savings goals.  Cracking the code of NLC adoption can unlock 49% additional lighting in commercial lighting projects and up to 30% of HVAC load, allowing you to continue to claim savings from lighting upgrades for years to come.

Building system integrators and consulting engineers

Networked lighting controls represent huge potential, as they are installed in less than 1% of the existing lighted square footage in the US and Canada. For retrofits, there are challenges to increasing NLC installations including, but not limited to, a poor end-user experience due to design, installation, and/or commissioning issues. Integrators and consulting engineers can help break down barriers that will enable a future with NLCs on all projects and move towards NLC and HVAC integration. Learn about tools being developed that can help, and network with energy efficiency professionals to learn how these programs can help increase installations through expertise and funding.

Lighting controls manufacturers and representatives

Many lighting agencies have evolved to include lighting controls teams responsible for design and commissioning. You play a vital role in getting NLCs specified by working with designers, distributors, contractors, and facility managers to navigate challenges and ensure proper installation and user experience. Many barriers exist to achieving system integration. As the DLC develops new tools and brings together key stakeholders, this is an opportunity to provide input and network with efficiency program professionals and learn about available incentives that will enable future growth of NLC systems.

Lighting and HVAC installers and other trade allies

You’re tasked with decoding both program requirements and product manuals while trying to meet customer expectations. Your experiences will help us uncover insights to improve both programs and products and clear the path to smooth, successful installations in an untapped market.

Facility managers

Facility managers are responsible for managing the operational budget of a building as well as managing issues on both maintenance and energy costs. If you never did an LED upgrade or are ready to replace a previous upgrade, installing NLCs needs to be part of the discussion. On average, NLCs save 49% of lighting energy costs, and if integrated with the HVAC system, an additional 30% savings on HVAC load can be achieved. Attending this summit will provide an opportunity to learn what is needed to navigate this process. You’ll collaborate with efficiency programs and other building professionals as we work toward enabling increased installations of NLCs and system integration and learn how to leverage efficiency program rebates to offset your investment.
